Petit St Vincent
Affectionately known as PSV to its many aficionados, this private island forms one of the world’s most wonderful hideaways. Its lush green landscape is encircled by an almost unbroken ring of soft white sand, which is itself surrounded by translucent blue waters, threaded with ribbons of brilliant turquoise and sheltering coral reefs, teeming with colourful fish. Within its exquisite boundaries, just twenty two cottages share the 113 acre island. Furnished in cool, cushioned cane, their bare stone walls form a three-sided frame, the fourth being glass doors on to timber sundecks overlooking the sea.
Each has a bedroom, a living room with day beds (which could accommodate children), and one or two shower rooms. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea are served in the main pavilion, in the cottages or, indeed, on the beach. Nothing is too much trouble for the resort’s most obliging staff, and guests simply hoist a yellow flag for service or a red one to remain undisturbed. Sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling and scuba diving are all available, and the island has a tennis court.
