The Painter's House
Nestling in a valley below Monte Cetona on one side and overlooking the Val d'Orcia on the other, the Painter's House is near the medieval town of Sarteano, near San Casciano dei Bagni, with the wonderfully indulgent Fonte Verde Spa. Also nearby are Bagno Vignoni, Radicofani, Cetona and Pienza.
The house was fully restored in 2001 and the furnishings have been carefully selected to reflect the tastes of the owners, who have designed many houses in Italy and sets and costumes for the stage, opera and film. Outside there are 30 acres of land to explore, including a vegetable garden with fresh herbs, lettuce and tomatoes, depending on the season.
At ground floor level is a well-equipped kitchen with large fridge, 5 burner gas hob, copper lined double sink. The kitchen leads out to a terrace with vine covered pergola overlooking the garden and pool area.
The sitting room spans the whole width of the house and is very bright and airy with French windows at both ends and several sofas.
Upstairs there are four lovely bedrooms with modern bathrooms and all rooms have views over the valley, woods, fields or pool.
This charming property represents superb value for money and we are sure that it will prove very popular with our clients.

Welcome Provisions Included
A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.
Food Hamper
Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.
Cook Service
One of the maids, Rosalba, is very happy to cook occasionally during the week for clients. Rosalba cooks very good local food, though her choice of sweets may be somewhat limited by British standards. Rosalba would normally do the shopping for the meal, prepare some things at home, last-minute dishes at the villa, lay the table, serve the first course, and leave after having brought the main course to the table and having cleared the kitchen. She would not normally expect to work after 9.30 pm, nor does she work on Sundays or Public Holidays. Rosalba does not usually like to cook more than a couple of evenings a week, but once you are here you may be able to persuade her to cook a third time.
For the arrival weekend, Rosalba will prepare and leave something for you to heat up or eat cold, both for the Saturday evening and a light meal for the Sunday, if you wish.
Options
a) 2 evening meals per week, at €13 per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.
b) One evening per week (e.g. Saturday evening meal, plus a light meal for the Sunday, both left for you), at €13 per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.
Prices and Booking
The cost of the cook service is €13 Euro per hour to include time spent shopping and travelling. As a guideline, please bear in mind that shopping in the country can take a long time, so a charge of 6 hours for a meal (depending on the number of people, how many courses, how complex, even how far the cook has to travel to get certain ingredients) may not be considered excessive, though usually, for a simple meal, the hours would be fewer. The cost of food will be added on to this.
If you are happy with the above arrangements, we would be grateful if you could complete the questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible, so that the cook is informed well in time that you would like her to cook for your party. Rosalba may have other commitments, so we cannot guarantee that she will always be available.
Shopping
The cook is not able to shop for non-food items or drink. We suggest you stop on the way and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast for Sunday and Monday mornings. However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), and bearing in mind that almost all shops are closed on Sundays, you may wish to order a full Food Hamper (enough for two light meals, 2 breakfasts, plus ‘basics’ – see the Travel Directory in the Italy brochure for further details).
Note
Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service.
