San Donato, Lake Bolsena
Character and contemporary comfort come in equal measure at this lovely villa in the heart of Lazio’s Etruscan region, but within very easy access of the neighbouring regions of Tuscany and Umbria. Perched on a hilltop and encircled by olive trees, meadows and sunflowers, the house is framed by an avenue of cypress trees, its stone walls mellowed to a soft honey tone, its gardens screened with neatly trimmed hedges. Inside, the villa’s innately rustic features are enhanced by a mix of modern and antique furnishings. Hand-made tiles and high ceilings, crossed with chestnut beams, contrast with travertine marble bathrooms; and a kitchen, equipped with all mod-cons, meets the dining room through a huge stone arch.
Linking indoor and outdoor living, a loggia runs the length of the house, forming al fresco living and dining ‘rooms’, from which to enjoy the uninterrupted views. Steps lead down from here to the infinity pool in its lawned surround, and to a games room and convenient shower room on the lower level. Just 4km from shops in Grotte di Castro, San Donato is 10km from swimming, sailing and fish restaurants at Bolsena Lake.

Private Swimming Pool
12m x 4m with built-in steps. Pool Towels. The pool is open from mid May to mid September. Outside these dates, the pool can be opened on request for an extra charge.
Note: Low walls around the loggia make San Donato unsuitable for unsupervised children
Welcome Provisions Included
A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.
Food Hamper
Can be arranged for an additional cost and payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Shopping
The cook cannot shop for non-food items or drinks, except arrival night drinks if ordered. We suggest you stop on the way to Villa San Donato and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast on Sunday morning. Most shops will be closed on Sunday, though there is one fair sized supermarket in Orvieto, if you come from that direction (Super Conti), open all day on Sundays. However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), you may wish also to order a full Food Hamper (enough for two light meals, 2 breakfasts, plus ‘basics’).
